Because the overwhelm and the fight-or-flight are things that happen in the body, what I would say is the golden route is to be able to help people have experiences in the body that contradict those of the overwhelming helplessness. ~Peter Levine
Q: What do you mean by an unresolved childbirth experience?
All mothers, regardless of their birthing experience, are welcome
here. If you have something lingering from your birth experience and you want to
feel freer, more grounded, more confident in your sense of yourself and your
mothering, more at home again in your body, more trusting of your own wisdom--
please, come move, dance, sing, and
witness with us.
You may have experienced the birth recently or years ago. You may
have a healthy baby but believe that is not all that matters. You may have lost
your baby. You may have experienced interventions you didn’t want. You may have
done things you wished you hadn’t, or not done things you wish you had. You may
simply feel unsettled. You may be carrying with you feelings of incompletion,
grief, sadness, anger, confusion, disconnection, abandonment, guilt, shame,
doubt. Please, come move, dance, sing,
grieve, and transform with us.
You may be just beginning your healing journey, or you may be longer on the path.
Come move your voice and your body, let what needs to be released,
come out. Join us in the supported, confidential community of other women who
are also journeying. This is sacred healing space. We believe in the wisdom of
our bodies to tell us what we need and to heal.
Q: Do I have to be in therapy to join this group?
No. This work complements any other healing work you may be
doing, but it doesn’t require it. It may be helpful to work with an individual
counselor or have other supports to help you along your path and to help you
integrate. If you are looking for additional resources or other healing modalities, please see our
resources page or check in with us at any time.
Q: I’m worried about singing and dancing in front of others. Do I have to perform?
Will people be staring at me?
No. This is not performance-based work. Our intention is the
opposite. We are a group of women who are holding sacred safe space for each
other to encourage authentic movement, authentic sounding, and authentic
transformation. This work is about honoring how we want to move and how we want
to make sounds, in any given moment, without worrying what others think. Witnessing and being
witnessed are important parts of this work, but this is very different than
performing. This is the sacred art of being present for ourselves and each
other with what arises. Witnessing and being witnessed connect us, validate us,
empower us, make our experiences matter, help bring us back to ourselves.
